Here is how to get Summer Ready
So summer is on its way and you have packed up your sweaters and pulled out your bikini – -so now is the time to pay serious attention to your beautiful skin! Even if you don’t plan to stroll around in your swimwear, you will still want to make sure that you look sun kissed and soft. Thank goodness it only takes a little TLC to get your skin in tip-top shape!
Dry, dead skin cells can build up on your skin, making it look dull. Therefore, exfoliating your skin at least once a week is a very important step when it comes to achieving smooth, healthy-looking skin. Not only will it give you a nice glow but also promotes healthy cell regeneration that makes your skin look more refreshed. As a bonus, products like moisturizers or other specialized treatments will go on more smoothly and be better able to penetrate your skin after exfoliation. Remember on your face we use Acids to exfoliate, never ever scrub your face! As you age, skin cells turn over more slowly which can leave skin dull and lifeless. Removing dead skin cells and encouraging new cell growth will reveal healthy, radiant new skin with improved elasticity. This enables your serums, moisturisers and other skincare products to penetrate the skin’s surface better and work more effectively. You should also exfoliate your hands, arms, feet and legs to get yourself ready for shorts, sandals, and short-sleeved tops. Don’t forget your lips! Exfoliate gently, then hydrate.
Drink Plenty of Water
Higher temperatures and more time outdoors lead to internal dehydration therefore your next step in getting skin ready for summer is to adjust your hydration routine. Make sure you drink plenty of water to keep your moisture levels up. Having an extra glass or two of water will help you stay hydrated and look flawless.
Moisturise the Skin
Summer sun can dry your skin, making it look dull and increasing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Keep your skin smooth and moisturized with your normal moisturiser and don’t forget to protect with Antioxidants daily.
Easy on the Eyes
The summer elements can be particularly harsh on the fragile skin around your eyes. We suggest, Youth Essentia Eye Gel, to smooth, lift and hydrate as well as alleviate puffiness and under eye darkness for a smoother, brighter look.
Avoid hot water
Long, hot showers and baths tend to be drying. Instead, switch to lukewarm water. To leave your skin looking and feeling smooth, finish your bath or shower with a cool rinse. Try this same technique on your hair! You might also consider using a natural soap and /or shampoo enriched with natural oils such as avocado oil, olive oil or coconut oil.
Eating well is one of the ultimate forms of self care, so make sure to eat a plant-based diet of nutrient-dense foods that contain antioxidant compounds, which help reduce the damaging effects of sunshine. Stock your refrigerator with lots of fruits and vegetables to help hydrate your skin. Keep your skin looking great with the antioxidants you feed your body! Increase your intake of dark, leafy greens, brightly coloured vegetables and hydrating citrus fruits for a skin-nourishing boost of vitamins A, C, and E which act as antioxidants with anti-inflammatory properties. Other great high-antioxidant foods include green tea and dark chocolate! Try Our Skin Complete Supplements for your perfect way to get your nutrients, Vitamins a and D and skin loving antioxidants.
Protect thy Skin
Hats, sunglasses, UV protective clothing and shade are your best protection, but when these are not appropriate or available, choose a safe sunscreen and reapply regularly. Try your best to avoid direct sun exposure and keep in mind that your skin is prone to sun damage even when it isn’t being directly exposed to sunlight such as while driving or even on an overcast day, for example. It cannot be said enough times – sunscreen is essential to protecting your skin from the harmful rays of the sun. No tan is a safe tan! Sun protection is the single most important way to have beautiful, radiant smooth skin for your entire life.
Break a Sweat
It may seem odd but regular exercise boosts circulation, nourishes your skin and supports the production of collagen. In addition, increased sweating from exercise is a great health benefit as a detoxifier. It helps draw toxins out of the body and cleanse the pores of congestion. To get your body and skin ready for summer – the answer is regular exercise! As for the best type of exercise for your skin, it’s all good. Try adding 30 minutes of a few simple yoga postures or a brisk walk to your day three times a week, to see the beauty returns in your skin.
You don’t need the sun to give you that summer-smooth and sun-kissed glow, try a sunless self-tanning treatment instead. It’s important to get into the habit of getting your summer glow from a bottle and not from harmful UVA rays. Exfoliation first for clearing away dead skin is essential, before you apply a sunless tanning product. If you skip this important step, your skin will look splotchy and the application will be uneven. Try a spray tan at Puravida or Vutan Tanning Mousse if you want something to do at home!

Spring clean your Products
Spring cleaning is a great opportunity to throw out old cosmetics and skincare products. These products do have a shelf life. Old, outdated products can harbor bacteria and lose their effectiveness. Check the dates on your products.
- Anything past the expiration date
- Products that appear dry or crusty
- Anything that has changed consistency, colour, or smell
- Anything with an SPF that is older than one year (SPF loses its effectiveness over time and it’s just not worth the risk)
- Mascara older than three months. (always toss it after three months, regardless of how much there is remaining)
- Old, dirty makeup brushes and sponges
