If you experience acne scarring, pigmentation or signs of ageing such as wrinkles or loss of firmness and elasticity, Medical Skin Needling facial treatments could be the solution for you. For many, the idea of Skin Needling is pretty scary (yes, there is blood). However, in the right hands you will barely feel a thing and you will be amazed by the results.

1)How Does Medical Skin Needling Work?

Skin Needling is a form of skin rejuvenation, which aims to stimulate the skins natural production of collagen and elastin. Using a stainless-steel fine needle cartridge, tiny penetrations are created on the skins surface. The body’s immune system then recognises the small ‘wounds’ and begins the repairing process. The result is smoother, plumper skin and a reduced appearance of scarring and pigmentation. The process of self-repairing can be extremely effective when induced in the correct environment. Whilst the process itself is simple, the technique must be executed with precision to ensure a safe treatment protocol. This is definitely a treatment you want performed by a dedicated therapist who pays close attention to detail.

Effects of Needling:

  • Stimulated the production of collagen and elastin, as a result the skin becomes smoother and tighter
  • Keratinocytes migrate rapidly across the epidermal defect and the proliferate, as a result the skin becomes thicker

Platelet facts

  • Platelets are concentrated packets of chemicals containing growth factors
  • Their primary function is to stop bleeding
  • Secondary function is to start healing
  • They are smaller than blood cells

Growth factors: TGF- Transforming growth factors

  • Platelets release TGF Beta 1, 2 and 3 once injury occurs
  • TGF Beta 1 and 2 builds scar tissue
  • TGF Beta 3 causes regrowth and regeneration
  • TGF beta 3 only lasts for 24 hours

Needling helps the skin with:

  • The ability to release TGF Beta 3 to regenerate, not scar.
  • Once needle TGF Beta 3 remains active in the skin for up to two weeks
  • TGF Beta 1 and 2 disappear after 24hours, this is the opposite to a normal wound.

Below is an example of Before and After a course of 6 Needling Sessions. The redness is reduced, the tone and texture is improved and over all skin health is improved, for a beautiful skin for a lifetime

2)What Does It Involve?

Here at Puravida, we are expertly trained in the technique of Medical Skin Needling. Following a deep cleanse, a topical numbing agent is applied for your comfort. While it is not the most pleasant treatment, you will not feel pain or major discomfort. Once the skin is prepared, we then use a crosshatch technique, for up to 30 minutes. The fine stainless-steel needles create micro ‘wounds’ in the skin.

For the first 24-48 hours after the treatment you may experience redness and inflammation and for the succeeding 3-5 days you may encounter dryness and mild peeling. To nurture your repairing phase post treatment, it is imperative to follow the post care protocol for Skin Needling. There are three non-negotiables; no makeup for 12 hours, keep the skin moist and steer clear of actives for 5-7 days post treatment. We recommend using the Prologic Post Needling Serum coupled with a Jane Iredale mineral makeup. We recommend between 4-6 treatments to achieve exceptional results.

3) Will Skin Needling hurt?

There are several devices on the market for Skin Needling, we believe in using the original form of physical rollers so this may be slightly more painful however, we use a topical anaesthetic to maximise your comfort. It’s safe and comfortable.

4) Can Skin Needling treatments go wrong?

Skin Needling requires extensive training; we are qualified therapists that have been expertly trained to attain the required accreditation. We appreciate that every skin type and skin condition is different, therefore it is imperative that your Skin Needling treatment is personalised to your individual needs. Your dedicated therapist will provide an initial consultation, treatment journey plan and post treatment skincare instructions for you to achieve your desired results.

5) Is there Downtime?

max led

Yes, you will experience some downtime with a Medical Skin Needling treatment for a day or two. However, after a series of 4-6 treatments, you will be rewarded with a firmer, plump, glowing complexion. We use Max+ LED treatment after your treatment to help assist with the wound healing process and minimise inflammation.
